In working fall semesters for NOLS, students have the privilege to explore some of my most loved places: backpacking in the the Wind River Range, boating on desert rivers, and canyoneering on Cedar Mesa in southern Utah. This is a short selection of films I’ve been showing students this fall (and watching myself) for inspiration about upcoming adventures.

The Important Places

The Thousand Year Journey

An amazing film about the love for adventure.

On Assignment with Jimmy Chin

A look at climbing in Yosemite through the eyes of a photographer trying to share his love for the sport.

The Story of Place

A look at the wonderful wilderness and history of Cedar Mesa and the Greater Canyonlands.

I Am Red: The Colorado River

As the film says, this is the most endangered river in America, no longer reaching the ocean.
